Way Seeking Mind

Sometimes, a mind arises that tells us, "There has to be something more than this", which can serve as inspiration to practice the Dharma. In the Zen tradition, this is called the Way Seeking Mind.

A talk shared with the Big Heart City Meditation group on June 14, 2024.

How did we find our way to the Dharma? What can we do to keep going? Sometimes, a mind arises that tells us, “There has to be something more than this”, which can serve as inspiration to practice the Dharma. In the Zen tradition, this is called the Way Seeking Mind.

If we are new to practice, Way Seeking Mind might still be fresh. If we are veterans to practice, the Way Seeking Mind might still feel fresh, but we likely have had to refresh it in a multitude of ways. Was it suffering that got us here? Was it bearing witness to another’s freedom? How might memory play a role in revitalizing the urgency and hope that fuel the mind that seeks the way?

In this talk, I explore these questions and then offer a guided meditation.

The talk is also available at Big Heart City Meditation’s website.
